Ballet for Adults

A creative and fun way to improve your balance, flexibility, posture, coordination and muscle strength whilst challenging your mind!

Classical ballet classes exclusively for adults of all ages and experience levels. Bosman Ballet Flow is a studio where you can start, continue or rediscover the joy of ballet. With classes catering for everyone from adults with no prior experience, adults at advanced proficiency level through to RAD Silver Swans, there is a class for everyone. Our focus is to make classical ballet inclusive and accessible for all. Set in a welcoming environment classes are relaxed and fun with the emphasis on developing individual expression within an “…oasis of calm, support and self-care”. Ballet is an excellent way to build strength, develop flexibility and enhance posture amongst countless other physical and emotional benefits. Classes take place throughout the year at three Christchurch locations.
There are four categories of ballet classes for adults with Bosman Ballet Flow:
**Silver Swans:**
No prior ballet experience or completion of Introduction Course required.
The Silver Swans classes are ACC accredited for Strength and Balance
*Studio and live on-line/Zoom classes available.*
**Adult Open Ballet:**
All ages. Some prior ballet experience or completion of the Introduction Course preferred.
*Studio and live on-line/Zoom classes available.*
**Mixed Level Adult Ballet**
All ages. Dancers in these classes are a mix of adult Ballet and Silver Swans. Content is a medium level with scaled options.
Ballet for Adults Introduction Programme:
All ages. Suitable for absolute beginners.

Silver Swans®

ACC Approved classes for Strength & Balance.

The benefits of ballet have been recognised by ACC. Only exercise providers who meet nine clinical assessment criteria for community group strength and balance are eligible to use the Approved Strength and Balance Programme quality ‘tick’.

**Silver Swans®**
The Royal Academy of Dance created the Silver Swans® programme based upon research done by Dance for Lifelong Wellbeing and in response to a growing demand by adults wishing to take up ballet.
Originally designed for over 55’s, this programme is also available to adults of any age and ability. Classes have a gentle teaching and exercise approach. Ballet moves are scaled to accommodate all participants. There is no requirement to have completed the Introduction Course before starting the Silver Swans classes.

**Ballet for Adults Introduction Course**
Our Introduction Course comprises ten x 60 minute classes.
This programme is tailored for enthusiastic adult dancers of all ages seeking to grasp the fundamentals of ballet. Completion of this initiative will pave the way for further exploration in our other classes.
Places limited to 16 dancers.

For those with **previous** ballet experience at any level. These classes are open to all ages. All classes are 75 minutes unless stated otherwise. Christchurch adult ballet classes. Class size limited to 16 dancers.

**Ballet Fundamentals**
This class is designed for dancers who have recently completed the Introduction Course, Dancers returning to ballet from a break or dancers just wanting to revisit the basics. This class is also suitable for beginners.

**Ballet Focussed Body Conditioning**
A ballet focussed conditioning class incorporating mobility movement training, dance specific conditioning, PBT, Animal Flow* and more.

**Ballet Repertoire/Technique**
In this class dancers will learn repertoire from the ballets and focus on technique associated with the steps.

*Animal Flow
Animal Flow consists of ground based, body weight movement made fun, challenging and effective. It is designed to improve strength, flexibility, mobility and coordination for all levels of fitness enthusiasts. Animal Flow training is incorporated into the Bosman Flow classes (please see above).

celia-bosman — Celia Bosman

Play a piece of music and I want to move!
Born in the United Kingdom, my early ballet training was with the Madeleine Sharp School of Dancing. In 1974 I performed with Madeleine Sharp’s school in front of Queen Elizabeth II at the opening of The Royal Academy of Dance headquarters in Battersea. I then went on to receive an RAD Scholarship and completed my training at The Royal Ballet School in London. I went on to dance professionally in both the UK and Europe. Since retiring from the stage, my desire to stay healthy and keep my body moving efficiently led to my career branching out into the Health and Fitness arena. In addition to my ballet and adult ballet teaching, I am a Silver Swans® Licensee as well as a Certified Professional in Personal Training, Animal Flow and Group Fitness Training. I gain great enjoyment from sharing my love of ballet and assisting others in their quest for a healthy body and mind and I trust that my enthusiasm is contagious.

We often get asked ‘What do I wear for class?” You have the freedom to wear whatever you are comfortable moving in or if you feel like stepping into the studio wearing something more dance related, we have developed Butterfly Dancewear with your needs in mind.

Our unique designs are body friendly. We understand that every body is different, so we make soft shapes and generous cuts with forgiving waists, for comfort as well as style.

We are located in Otautahi, Aotearoa / Christchurch, New Zealand, where most of our garments are made.
